It's almost time for dinner and I have decided to prepare pounded yam since I have soup in the kitchen. Naturally, I love eating pounded yam but each time I remember the pounding part, the zeal of eating it dies a natural death. But for tonight o, pounded yam here I come (lol).
I don't even know the tribe that owns this food but I know It's very common among the people from western and eastern part of Nigeria. I know the Yorubas call it Iyan while the Igbos called it JiEsuruesu. Oya, It's meal time!!!
Ingredients
Cooking Method
- Peel yam, cut into pieces and wash. Put into a pot and add enough water to cover it. Add pinch of salt if you desire. Cook until yam becomes very soft.
- While you awaits the yam, get your mortar and pestle ready and washed.
- When yam is well cooked and soft, drain water and add some amount of yam into mortar and pound with pestle until It's very smooth and fine. Repeat process on the remaining yam.
You can now enjoy your pounded yam with any soup of your choice but as for me, am eating mine with Afang Soup.
Bon Appetite!!!
