Oh no! One of our favorite couples is headed to splitsville, claims a new report. The duo have been dating since the summer of 2012 and had been close to an engagement, sources told E! News. So what went wrong?

Katy Perry, 29, and John Mayer, 36, have broken up, according to a Feb. 26 E! News report. They split “within the last few days.” The somewhat on-and-off couple sparked engagement rumors when Katy was spotted wearing a ring on her left ring finger at the EMAs in Nov. 2013 and then again after the couple had a romantic Valentine’s Day meal in Los Angeles on Feb. 14.

How heartbreaking! John and Katy, who went public with their relationship in the summer of 2012 and worked past a short break in March 2013, have reportedly ended things for good.

The couple spent a romantic Valentine’s Day together in L.A., just before Katy headed to London for Fashion Week and the BRIT Awards.

The report is somewhat of a shock considering that various media outlets, including Us Weekly, reported in October 2013 that an engagement was imminent: “Everyone knows it’s just a question of when John will propose,” a source told the magazine.

E! News reported that friends said “they are so perfect together.”

A Look Back At Their Relationship

Katy and John were open about their relationship to the media. Katy told E! News that John was a ”genius.” “I’ve been a fan of John’s for years before I got to actually kiss him,” she said.

They even released a super sexy song together “Who You Love” and debuted the intimate music video on GMA on December 17.

Katy told E! News about their duet: “I’ve been such a fan, I think he’s so incredibly talented and gifted and a genius songwriter. So to be a part of anything he was doing was just natural.”
