When the World Cup commences on Thursday June 12, football
fans in Adamawa State would not have the opportunity of watching the matches in
public places, as the state government has imposed an indefinite ban on
football viewing centres. The government cited advice by the Nigerian Army as
the reason for the action. Following an attack on a football viewing centre in
Jos, Plateau State, the military had warned football fans across the country to
be careful during the tournament. Ahmad Sajoh, director of press and public
affairs to Governor Murtala Nyako, said the action was taken in the best
interest of the people.
He said the state government regretted any
inconvenience the action would cause.
It might interest you to know that Adamawa is among the
three north-eastern states presently under the state of emergency.you will recall that a viewing centre in Jos, Plateau State capital, also became target of bombing on May 24, when a lot of people came to watch the final match of UEFA Champions League.
