Britain enjoys the hottest day of year as temperatures soar to 32C

Britain was given a display of just how quickly its weather can change today when stormy downpours and dramatic thunderstorms overnight broke into glorious sunshine and soaring temperatures this morning.
A hot, muggy day yesterday produced the perfect conditions for dramatic thunderstorms to sweep across many counties in southern Britain, with more than 3,000 lightning bolts striking ground overnight.
But today is on course to be hottest day of the year, with temperatures of more than 32C sending Britons scrambling for the beach in a bid to cool off.
