Luis Figo to challenge for FIFA presidency

Luis Figo has announced that he intends to challenge Sepp Blatter in the FIFA presidential elections.
Former Portugal star Figo is one of a number of candidates to have recently declared their interest in the role, which will be decided by a vote of the 209 Member FAs at the FIFA Congress.
The retired Portuguese footballer has stepped into the fray to take the position which Joseph Blatter has held since 1998, with the incumbent recently coming under fire over widespread suspicions of corruption.

Figo (born in Lisbon, 1972) feels that he has what it takes to do the job and is convinced that he can make for a good replacement of Blatter, whose support appears to have weakened as he seeks to renew his term for the fifth time.
The former player, who represented Real Madrid and Barcelona, amongst other teams, would receive the backing of many of UEFA's 54 voters, which is where most of the opposition to the current president lies. Blatter, meanwhile, is relying on the power of the 'establishment' to extend his term in office.
