Apart from being one of the best dressed Nollywood Actresses, Rita Dominic is fantastic actress and judging by the numerous awards her self-produced movie, The Meeting has picked up in recent times, the Actress is clearly a STAR in her own right.
Starting a budding film career in 1998, the young diva was discovered by comedian Basorge Tariah and has since grown from supporting characters to taking lead roles and only recently co-produced her first movie, The Meeting, which has received critical acclaim and is presently taking its rounds at the cinemas.
On arriving Nollywood, Rita’s style was everything but fashionable. She would often be seen in see-through tops while rocking hairdos that accentuated her thinning hairline, both combining to give the light-skinned screen goddess an unflattering look. When it came to make up, Rita would regularly shave off her eyebrows and pencil them in weakly. It appears no one ever told her that the thinner your eyebrows, the older you look.
Stuck in the 70s but living in the 90s, Rita was fond of the overly big hairdos reminiscent of old school pop stars. These styles, however, were too big for her moderately small frame so rather than help her achieve the glam look she craved, it often made her look awkward with a chunky head and a somewhat small neck.
Not until the late 90s and early 2000s did Rita truly understand her body and wake up to join the fashion train that was almost eluding her. Today, she has not only overtaken the train but has become a fashion trendsetter paving the way for those behind her and creating new and savvy fashion statements that gets us every time.
One of her most recent glam looks was at the inaugural Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards where she adorned a gold floor length gown designed by House of Moofa. These days, Rita accessorizes with stylishly done turbans and her signature was not missing at the AMVCA’s when she arrived to present an award, looking like an Arabian princess.
To receive her award in Kenya at the Kalasha Film and Television Awards, Rita glowed in a fuchsia pink strapless gown accentuated at the waist with a black bow. The fish tail twist to the dress gave her an illusion of length to her otherwise petite frame.
For the premiere of The Meeting, her debut into the world of producing, she spotted a shimmery light blue one-shoulder floor length gown with a thigh-high slit alongside her now-famous turban. There was no extra flesh hanging loosely around her belly, as the dress, though fitted, was not obscenely tight. It is little wonder that stylish Rita Dominic was the 2012 recipient of the FAB Award for the Most Stylish Actress, beating Genevieve Nnaji and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde to put herself in the forefront of fashion relevance in Nollywood.
Describing her style, Rita explains that she just goes with the flow and seeks out outfits that will suit her figure: “My fashion is mostly how I am feeling at that point in time. What I wear goes with my moods but I also go with what looks good for my body type."
