In Sevilla, at least for a few days, Lionel Messi put an end to the debates about his fitness by hitting two goals to round off a number of counter-attacks by Barcelona.
The Argentinian star made it 2-1 in Barcelona's favour just one minute from half time, receiving the ball from Pedro and with a hard shot, one of his specialities, placing the ball beyond the reach of the advancing Beto, the Sevilla goalkeeper. And half time came with 1-2 still on the scoreboard.
And then in the second half, Messi made it 1-3 following another counter-attack, this time with a carefully-placed shot by the right-hand post.
Messi had also provided the assist for the goal that made it 1-1, taking the free kick which led to Alexis's goal. He was actually in an offside position which was not signalled by the referee, and headed the ball home from Messi's measured kick.
