1 Killed as Gunmen Attack Enugu State Govt House!

An attempt by a group of gunmen numbering about 50 to forcefully gain entrance into the premises of the Government House, Enugu was foiled by security operatives on Saturday.
It took the combination of policemen, Civil Defence officers, soldiers and other security operatives to repel the invading force which arrived in the early hours. Street Journal’s findings revealed that there was an exchange of gunfire that lasted till around 4.30 on Saturday morning. It was gathered that in the course of the gunfight, one of the attackers was killed while three others were arrested.

The attack on the Government House has been confirmed by Chukwudi Achife, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Enugu State. He disclosed that no security personnel was injured in the attack. He also disclosed that those arrested have been handed over to the police along with some of their weapons.
The attackers who went to the Government House in a convoy of seven buses were said to have parked about half a kilometre from the gate. They reportedly carried flags that bore the insignia of some cult groups and when they approached the security men at the gate, they asked to be allowed in, claiming they were there to protest.
Street Journal gathered from a security source that when one of the Civil Defence operatives opened the gate and demanded why they were coming to protest in the night, one of the attackers inflicted a machete cut on his hand and tried to force the gate open.
Security operatives including Governor Sullivan Chime’s Chief Security Officer promptly rushed to the scene to handle the situation. It however took hours of shooting to dislodge the invaders who were pursued as far as Independence Layout before three of them could be apprehended. Street Journal also gathered that some of them apparently had bullet repelling charms on them as the bullets fired had no effect on them. Most of them were said to be tying red piece of cloth around their heads.
