While we’re still waiting on who will play Aaliyah, an actress has been picked to portray Whitney Houston in an upcoming Lifetime biopic. Former America’s Next Top Model finalist, now actress, Yaya DaCosta has been selected to star as Nippy.
Since her Top Model days, DaCosta has had a number of acting gigs, including a recurring part on All My Children, as well as a role in Lee Daniels'The Butler. The new film on the late Houston, will also be a directorial debut for Angela Bassett.
The upcoming film (which for now is simply titled Whitney Houston),
will highlight Houston’s early life and career, including her
relationship with Bobby Brown. And while the Houston family has expressed discontent, Bassett acknowledged her regard for both Houston and Brown in a statement released last month:
"I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents
and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their
story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to
have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world."
Lifetime's Whitney Houston's biopic is due out in 2015.
