Back in April, 1978, Elche, who had a foot and a half in Spain's second division, managed to score a goal against the mighty Barça thanks to the efforts of Marcelo Trobbiani. Few Elche fans could have predicted back then that it would be Elche's last goal scored against the Catalan giants for almost four decades.
Elche ended up losing that game 5-1 and were relegated down to the second division. Since then, they have clashed with Barça in nine official games (seven in la Liga and two in the cup). And haven't been able to score once. The balance of those nine matches is Barça 30, Elche 0.
This Saturday evening, the two teams are again to meet. Elche will receive Barcelona in their own ground and will be out to repeat Trobbiani's past achievement. In their favour, they have managed two goalless draws, one of them just a few months ago, which allowed them to stay up in the first division.
