The biggest story of the World Cup so far has undoubtedly been Neymar's form. After an up-and-down season at club level, the Barça star has been at his scintillating best for his date with destiny. He is Brazil's talisman, the man who delivers the goods when they need it most. An idol on whom millions of people are pinning their hopes of the 'Canarinha' lifting their sixth World Cup, he hasn't been hampered by the pressure. He is currently the tournament's top scorer, with four goals, and the player of the competition up to this point.
In Brazil's opener against Croatia, Neymar grabbed the crucial equaliser with a long-range strike and then capped the comeback by converting the penalty mistakenly awarded by Japanese referee Yuichi Nishimura. Only an inspired Guillermo Ochoa then prevented the ace from getting on the scoresheet against Mexico. However, the 22-year-old made amends and then some against Cameroon, twice hitting the target: the first a deft first-time finish from Luiz Gustavo's cross and the second a fierce strike from the edge of the box after a burst through the middle.
